Stichting De Plantage was founded in 1988 to make the publication of the booklet A Street to white women. Although the foundation's original objective was to organize a general cultural activity in Utrecht every year, the enormous success of the booklet naturally led to subsequent book publications. After books about Tuindorp, District C, the area along the Vaartse Rijn and the pandhof of the Dom, Stichting De Plantage appeared to develop into the Utrecht city publishing house.
